09/17/2002 "the vines, holidays, fame and knitting."
had a lovely time catching up with pea and loobylu for a bit of a knitting session, although uh...we got a little waylaid. food and conversation. as you do. we overcatered massively, due to a perfect rainy day for baking, and the thought that there was a terribly hungry little bub in the looby tum just waiting for a feed... for those who are suckers for baking and fine food, here's the recipies - the perfect ginger cake (and, yes, it's amazing...) and onion pie (sounds horrid, but trust us...it's a nigella recipe. can't go wrong with nige!). obviously, we need a get a recipe archive started here...
we've quite happily gone knitting nuts. a visit to the victorian tapestry workshop had us dumbfounded - 365 different colours of wool for sale? we're in heaven! a complete homewares knitter's dream, and just the thing for knitters/wool nuts that want a certain shade. lots of pink. mmm.
my life as a blog - we love the bit about the mirror project not being for geeks. yeah, right.
shockingly, horribly bad. stage management with a stopwatch (need to get it right down to the last second, eh pal?), printed setlists (in impact bold, no less, a sign that your band is well and truly going down...) with extra copies ever so thoughtfully made for the rabid fans. then there's the groupies, the posse of girls in the backstage doorframe, and the lead singer. he's so fucked up on a combination of bad mental health, drugs, and helpers who seem to be doing everything but...we're amazed the vines scored such a great review considering. a band with "the problem with music" in full swing.
the problem with music essay first appeared in the baffler, a fine publication from the states. lucky aussies will be able to see the editor tom frank at thisisnotart, a huge, terribly exciting cornucopia of newcastle based cultural events that you need to have a damn fine excuse not to attend.
we're taking a bit of a break from the computing machine for at least a week or more while attending TINA, going to meet the olds, and catching up with various creative folk in sydney.
